  • Welcome

I am a photographer living just outside Philadelphia. Although I have a small studio in the western suburbs, I use several larger studios in Philadelphia as well as 2 studios in New York City. Also, I travel to other cities as needed.

I've been a professional photographer since the mid '70's and specialize in studio still life and food. In the past year, I have been stretching creatively and have been fortunate enough to expand the areas of my work.

Recently, I have been shooting a number of professional portraits on location as well as handling assignment work involving legal firms and more medical and pharmaceutical jobs.

Hope you like the blog and will comment on the images and thoughts.

    All the best-

A review of sorts; Client speaks of portrait session on his blog-

I have a client who brought himself and a number of his clients to the studio for some business portraits. He liked them so much, I became a blog entry!
It all started when I received a phone call from a business friend who had a bunch of clients who needed updated photos of themselves for their websites and blogs. We spent a few hours in the studio photographing his clients and discussing family, friends and new business adventures for 2011.

All in all, we each had a good time, made some valuable connections and I made some money as well-
Once everyone has had the chance to receive their images, I will post a few of them here.

Check out his site and read what Brian Mattocks has to say, his business is Rent A Smart Guy and he assists business owners on strategies, marketing and a variety of services to facilitate business growth-

Mexican farm worker portrait

I made this portrait in the fields where this man and his fellow workers were hand picking corn.
I was shooting a video to document local farms and where the food comes from. I’m having a great deal of fun, waking up
early to drive over to a farm and watch the sun rise while the workers go about their business of putting food on our tables.
The visuals are stunning and the sounds of the birds, the workers and everything in nature makes for a pleasant start of the day.
Keep your eyes peeled for the video-

Cowtown Rodeo::Book

Cowtown Rodeo "Joe"

Well, I’m taking new pictures at Cowtown Rodeo in order to round out the images and complete a book. Although I’ve liked the original work of portraits, I felt the body of work needed something else. So, I have been going back and photographing some more editorial images to help define the ‘flavor’ of the place.

Once I have completed these, I am designing a book that I will have Blurb print so that I can share it with others.

Thank you for the encouragements of others. I’m like other photographers in that once I have finished something, I tend to put in the back of the shelf and move onto the next project. Hugs to the many friends who have encouraged me to share the work a bit more widely.

I competed at the Cowtown Rodeo many years ago. I have just had my first book published. Please check it out at http://www.bionicbullrider.com. Good luck with yours!

I competed at the Cowtown rodeo 60′-70′s. have stories in my recently published book, see website. Of Howard Harris during the Madison Square garden rodeo early 70′s. Also Harrisburg and North Washington. Also competed at the BiCenteial rodeo in Filly 1976 produced by the CowTown rodeo.

New project started- Gatherings

Over the years as a photographer of food, I’ve sourced some of the most exotic of ingredients and mostly when they were out of season-anywhere.

Last year, on a job for Twinings Tea, I had to source the vanilla orchid flower as well as berries and other flavor elements in December. Well, as you can imagine, I’ve developed quite a network of suppliers and growers. Places like Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania and the Smithsonian Institute greenhouses have been wonderful resources of knowledge and contacts. Sometimes, I will even grow plants in my greenhouse or gardens if at all possible. It’s fun to learn how to force plants to bloom in the dead of winter.

One of the most rewarding parts of these acquisitions of materials for the shoots is that I discover a wealth of people who are crafting, out of passion- wonderful foods, right in my own back yard of Chester County, PA. My unique access to many farms and kitchens has led me to start a small series of photographs documenting the process and people behind some beautiful artisan foods.

So, “Gatherings” will be a series of photographs around and about Chester County, PA following one specific producer of artisan food at a time. The series will continue on a monthly basis.

Please let me know what you think as I start to post images. Also, if you would like to get in contact with anyone I am documenting, I will be posting contact information for each grower, producer, baker and lover of good food as their series is released.

Thanks for looking~
